HR and Employment Law is crucial for any business owner to be aware of; the law is the same regardless of the number of employees.  Getting things wrong or ‘not knowing what you don’t know’ is not a defence in an Employment Tribunal.

So what gets in the way? So many times we hear business owners, faced with employee issues, say to us “Can I really say that?” or “Do I really have to do that?” “It won’t happen to me” or simply too afraid to take action due to perceived risks.

With an average award of £12,362 for unfair dismissal and £23,478 for sex discrimination (plus legal fees and reputation damage) the cost to your business could be devastating.  Can you afford the risk which could amount to thousands of pounds and reputational damage?

Delivered by Jayne Hart, Director of The HR Dept Newcastle, this practical session will provide a broad and practical overview of HR and Employment Law issues which any business owner or manager needs to be aware of.

Jayne will explain your responsibilities as an employer and how to manage your HR function from the beginning to the end of employment.

This workshop will cover:

• Getting the contractual terms right for the business
• Recruiting – how to attract talent
• Harassment, Bullying and Banter – the risk
• Discrimination risks
• Disciplinary and Grievance
• Managing poor performance and behavioural issues
• Understanding your Duty of Care
• What the costs could be of ‘getting it wrong’ if you receive an Employment Tribunal claim
